Hope

art
Sewing littoral detritus together in a chain that then spells 'hope' the artist might be suggesting that through labor and play we stand a chance of turning around and transforming the assault we are perpetrating, often unconsciously, on our environment. If there were another word here after 'hope' such as 'matters' - one might guess the artist was giving a nod to graphic designer Stephan Sagmeister having just discovered him that very morning at 4am.

Craft
Every one of these lid connectors is from some beach in California. This is part of a couple of 6foot strands out of maybe 10 that I sewed together in chains with wire 10 years ago. They make me feel good and they look great on Christmas trees or as beaded curtain like things between rooms.
